After some trips with our Nissan Frontier, we have realized that it’s time to install a trailer brake controller. We knew this when we bought the truck.
For the controller, we went onto eTrailer.com and looked at the available options. One looked good for our needs: the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller.
While it was not the least expensive option available, we really liked that the control is just a knob that sticks through a blank plate in the dash and not a big unit that has to take up a lot of dash space.
A nice thing about this truck is that it has the factory tow package, so this would be just an easy plug-and-play install using the included wire harness.
Install took less than an hour from start to finish.
Did the truck already come with a 7 pin trailer connection at the rear bumper? Mine didn't but it came with the harness on the frame for one to be added. I ended up needing to cut and switch two wires in the 7 pin so that my trailer brakes weren't on constantly. E trailer said this was a common issue with the Nissans and the 7 pin harness, if it's that common I don't know why there hasn't been an update..
